Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated Harry Maguire didn’t seem like he missed Leicester City much following his Manchester United defence gained a blank sheet at Old Trafford from his side.
Marcus Rashford penalty gave United a victoryputting in an impressive performance alongside Victor Lindelof following his #80m move from Leicester during summer made him the world’s most expensive defender.
Many had tipped Leicester to pickup things at Old Trafford, and though United were not at their full attacking possible, Solskjaer was thrilled with the camaraderie his negative showed as they venture into a interval.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports:”It did not look like he missed them a lot of! He stuck his head in did very well, and was calm on the ball, and that we had in the second half.
He then said in his post-match media conference:”Maguire was outstanding now, Jamie Vardy was kept fairly quiet, and it is not often you are able to say . Along Lindelof, both performed really well with. Even the full-backs did a decent job as well.
“I thought that they did great, read the game well. I’ve got loads of admiration for Vardy, he’s my type of centre-forward, harassing and operating in-behind, and also you’ve got to be spot on with your decision-making. I think they both demonstrated their value. There were a couple of races and Harry did well.”
Asked about the jeers coming out of the vocal travelling fans every time Maguire touched the ball, Solskjaer stated:”I don’t think that disturbs him at all. You have got to be that way, and that’s when you play, once you play once you mentor, when you handle. We do not get too much when we win, and we don’t get too from the stink when you lose”
Following what had been an indifferent start to the campaign with five points from four games united are back into the top four of their Premier League, leapfrogging Leicester.
He’s thrilled to have stood company as Leicester pressed for intervals in both halves Although Solskjaer recognises United didn’t play superbly.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, we did not play a excellent game,” he told Sky Sports. “The initial 25 mins were fantastic, but we lost control. Then towards the end we all were in control.
“Today was probably the very first time this season, besides charms against Chelsea, where we’ve needed to defend as a staff for longer periods, so the clean sheet is pleasing. The first 20 minutes was simply fantastic if you’re a neutral, to see.
“I thought we defended excellently. Obviously we would like to play better than this, possess the ball and control, but occasionally you play with a team that provides you problems, and I believe we rode the game out well.”
Seeing Soccer Saturday, Harry Maguire’s functionality was commended by Matt Le Tissier also stated Leicester lacked a sting, despite 58 percent possession.
For all their possession, keeping United penned in their own half , there was not that chance for Leicester.
It was a significant win today, and not just because of the fixtures, but since everyone gave Leicester a major chance. United ground out it, although it was not a comprehensive victory. They revealed a character to see the result out.
